Mushroom Coffee Blend With Chaga & Lions Mane – Cafetière Grind
We’ve been brewing different variations of coffee with mushroom powders in our office for years now, until one day we realised that it was something worth sharing. We’ve used our absolute favourite organic, responsibly & sustainably grown filter ground coffee and two of the most nutritious (and most popular) mushroom powders in this unique Mushroom Coffee blend.
You may think that mushrooms and coffee are an unusual combination but the flavour of chaga is earthy and perfumed whilst lions mane is subtle but slightly malty and umami. The result is a very rich, earthy style of coffee which definitely feels healthy.
Mushroom Coffee ingredients: Ground Organic Arabica Coffee, Washed & Honey (our favourite kind!)
Country of Origin: Peru & Honduras (Coffee), China (Wild harvested chaga), Slovenia (Lions mane)
Botanical Name: Arabica, Inonotus obliquus, Hericium Erinaceus
The coffee
We’ve used the finest organic coffee from our favourite coffee roaster, Extract Coffee. It’s a 70:30 blend from two sustainable farms, one in Peru and the other in Honduras.
The flavours you can expect from this blend are dark chocolate, fruit loaf and caramel. This is the exact same type of coffee we use in our office, we’ve tried many others but none seem to match this quality.
Why Chaga?
Chaga is an incredible mushroom with many health benefits, most notably for immune support. Chaga is found growing on birch trees and is a very dense, hard and dark coloured mushroom. Importantly chaga is best taken in hot water as this help to release the broad spectrum of nutrients.
For this blend we’ve chosen the wild harvested powdered version. Whilst it’s not cultivated/grown organically is actually tested and certified as organic retrospectively. Chaga has a beautifully perfumed, earthy flavour and aroma and adds a deep colour to your brew.
Why Lions mane?
Lions mane is one of our most popular mushroom powders, heralded for helping with cognitive function,
memory and mental acuity. Like chaga, lions mane is also best taken in hot water so it’s perfect in combination with chaga.
Lions mane has a subtle flavour which is slightly umami and malty. As the smallest component in this blend the chaga tends to be more the prominent flavour (after the delicious coffee of course!).
