The amazing ingredients of Sleepy Tea blend

The ingredients in our sleepy tea blend all may contribute to aiding sleep. Here’s how…

Chamomile

Our super fresh organic chamomile flowers come from Egypt. After harvesting the chamomile flowers are dried to produce the finest quality chamomile tea. Using only the finest organic flowers ensures maximum therapeutic value and maximum taste!

Hops

Better known for use in beer brewing these days, but did you know hops were brewed as tea by the ancient Greeks and Romans? When done so it makes a calming, tasty brew that pairs brilliantly with valerian.

Mucuna

Mucuna seeds powder hails from India and has been used traditionally in Ayurveda for thousands of years.

Significantly, contains L-Dopa and 5-HPT, which are the pre-cursors for dopamine and serotonin. These pre-cursors actually encourage and stimulate the production of these two hormones. Serotonin is commonly known as the ‘happy hormone’ as it is said to stabilise your mood. Low levels of serotonin are associated with anxiety and depression. Serotonin also plays a key role in deep and healthy sleep cycles.

Likewise, dopamine is a hormone and neurotransmitter that is responsible for reward responses, motivation and memory. The naturally occurring L-Dopa and 5-HTP in mucuna can help to stimulate the production of dopamine and serotonin.

Passionflower herb powder

This stunning flower has a much wider health profile and boasts a number of beneficial properties. First and foremost, passion flower is recognised for its sleep-promoting characteristics, it can act as a mild sedative by calming the mind of sleep associated anxiety and act as a muscle relaxant to further help the body prepare for, and maintain a restful sleep.

Valerian powder

Valerian root powder, hailing from the valerian plant, is a flowering plant native to Europe and parts of Asia that blooms beautiful pink and white flowers in the summer months. Studies have shown that valerian can reduce the time it takes to fall asleep and can help improve quality of sleep. In fact a study by the Foellinge Health Center in Sweden reported that 89% of participants in a sleep study experienced improved sleep after taking valerian.

Valerian is so effective as a sleep aid because it contains linarin, a chemical that acts as a sedative by calming activity in the central nervous system. Unlike many prescription sleep aids, valerian has little to no side effects and does not trigger the groggy, drowsy effects often experienced the next morning after taking a conventional sleeping pill.

Yes valerian doesn’t smell great, but once in water it’s quite pleasant. Aside for this it is well known for aiding sleep.

The ingredients of this product have been tested for heavy metals, e.coli, yeast, mould, salmonella and foreign matter. This product contains no bulking agents, added sugar, palm oil or GMO.

Serving suggestion:

1 to 2 teaspoons per cup. For best results use a tea strainer or teapot, pour in boiling water, stir well and steep for 4-5 minutes. There may be a little sediment left in the bottom of your cup and that’s to be expected due to the three powdered ingredients, it’s ok to leave this or drink it! Make sure to give the pouch a good shake before brewing.

Please note this product is meant for occasional and not continuous use.

Whilst taking passionflower and valerian is considered safe, the general recommendation is not to take them for more than 7 consecutive nights. After all, natural sleep is always better.
